Welcome & Announcements

100% Student Success

A Message from Principal Karen Aspen:

Welcome to Forest Lakes Elementary. As the Principal of FLE, I look forward to working with you as we strive to provide a quality education for all of our students. Your interest, support, involvement, and parental guidance will never be more important than they are in these early years of your child's education. By becoming a school volunteer, joining the PTA, attending school functions, reading to your child and supervising your child's work, you can take an active part in your child's early educational experiences. Working together, we can best meet the needs of our children.

Our School Advisory Council has created our annual SAC climate survey, and I would like to request that you take a couple minutes to participate in completing that survey.  We value the input of our parents and students because your input helps us to evaluate and continually improve our work with your children.

The link for the survey is  https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1ZJY3oIfKGk_xzgFv7DnF1tdyiyw82QDqPHRfougPOVY/viewform
We will also have hard copies of the survey available in our front office.

Please take time to complete the survey, one per family, by Saturday, April 26.  We will share the survey results at our next School Advisory Council meeting.

Thank you.

1st Annual Book Swap

posted Apr 18, 2014, 5:12 AM by 1331 Forest Lakes ES   [ updated Apr 18, 2014, 4:04 PM ]

1st Annual Book Swap

Need to clean out some bookshelves? If you have any “gently used” books at home that your child has read, he/she can bring them to school from Monday, April 28 to Friday, May 16. Teachers will have boxes in their classrooms for book collection.

This is a great way to get some “new” books for summer reading, and, best of all, it’s FREE! There will be a school-wide book swap May 27-30.

“Gently Used” – books that have been read a couple of times, pages not ripped or folded; no writing or coloring in the books – books should still look new!

If you have any questions, please call me at 813-891-0785 or email at ferraj@pcsb.org

Find out more about kindergarten registration

Student Registration Process

IMPORTANT - Any new student in kindergarten, sixth or ninth grade who enrolls in Pinellas County Schools will be assigned to a zoned school. All other new students will be assigned to their zoned school on a space-available basis.

STEP 1: Find Your Zoned School

Parents will first need to find their child’s zoned school by using the Zoned School Locator or calling Student Assignment, (727) 588-6210.

STEP 2: Reserve a Seat

To reserve a seat at a zoned school, use the online Student Reservation System (SRS) located on the district website, www.pcsb.org. You can use any computer, including a school computer, to reserve a seat.

To use the Student Reservation System, you will need a PCS Portal User ID and password. To get a new PCS Portal User ID and password, visit any school. Make sure to bring a valid ID (Driver's License, State ID card, Passport/Visa, Military ID or Green Card). If you already have a User ID and password for another child, you do not have to obtain new ones.

STEP 3: Register

The final step is to visit the assigned school and deliver the Required Documents: Birth certificate or other proof of identity/age, two documents proving residency, Florida Certificate of Immunization, physical examination certificate, child’s most recent report card (for students in grades 1-12), Individual Education Plan (if your child participates in exceptional student education) and Social Security number (optional).

Spirit Sticks and Enrichment Rewards

posted Dec 19, 2013, 8:46 AM by 1331 Forest Lakes ES   [ updated Dec 19, 2013, 8:46 AM ]

Spirit Sticks

Your PTA is excited to announce that the Spirit Sticks are finally in.  The PTA will be in the courtyard tomorrow (12/19/13) and Friday (12/20/13) from 8:15 am to 8:35 AM, before school starts, selling elf and snowman spirit sticks.  Supplies are limited so make sure and bring your money.  Spirit sticks are $1.00 each.

Enrichment Rewards

Pinellas County Schools offers a great roundup of online learning programs that help students build their skills in various subjects, including reading, language arts, math, science and social studies.

Offerings, which include FCAT Explorer, ST Math and Ticket to Read, are accessible 24/7. Children use several of these resources in class and are familiar with them. Many of the resources also include easy-to-use guides that explain how to use the programs.

A number of principals will be providing incentives to classes with the most participation.

Schools and students will also have the opportunity to win prizes through Ticket to Read’s new Ho-Ho-Holiday Competition, from Dec. 16 through Jan. 5. The top five schools with the most time on task will win iPod shuffles and visits from TJ Ticket, the Ticket to Read mascot.

To try out these great educational resources, just visit the district’s website www.pcsb.org and click on the Beyond the Classroom link on the home page.

Mr. McHugh and I are looking forward to providing another outdoor play time for our students who complete their holiday enrichment assignments.  We want you to keep your brain sharp over the winter holidays.

We will look forward to providing those rewards when we return from break.

I hope our Forest Lakes families will have a safe and happy holiday season.  We look forward to seeing you back at school tomorrow and Friday, then again in January of 2014!
