Welcome & Announcements

100% Student Success

A Message from Principal Karen Aspen:

Welcome to Forest Lakes Elementary. As the Principal of FLE, I look forward to working with you as we strive to provide a quality education for all of our students. Your interest, support, involvement, and parental guidance will never be more important than they are in these early years of your child's education. By becoming a school volunteer, joining the PTA, attending school functions, reading to your child and supervising your child's work, you can take an active part in your child's early educational experiences. Working together, we can best meet the needs of our children.

Student Registration Process

IMPORTANT - Any new student in kindergarten, sixth or ninth grade who enrolls in Pinellas County Schools will be assigned to a zoned school. All other new students will be assigned to their zoned school on a space-available basis.

STEP 1: Find Your Zoned School

Parents will first need to find their child’s zoned school by using the Zoned School Locator or calling Student Assignment, (727) 588-6210.

STEP 2: Reserve a Seat

To reserve a seat at a zoned school, use the online Student Reservation System (SRS) located on the district website, www.pcsb.org. You can use any computer, including a school computer, to reserve a seat.

To use the Student Reservation System, you will need a PCS Portal User ID and password. To get a new PCS Portal User ID and password, visit any school. Make sure to bring a valid ID (Driver's License, State ID card, Passport/Visa, Military ID or Green Card). If you already have a User ID and password for another child, you do not have to obtain new ones.

STEP 3: Register

The final step is to visit the assigned school and deliver the Required Documents: Birth certificate or other proof of identity/age, two documents proving residency, Florida Certificate of Immunization, physical examination certificate, child’s most recent report card (for students in grades 1-12), Individual Education Plan (if your child participates in exceptional student education) and Social Security number (optional).

Report Card Information

Students in Kindergarten

Kindergarten is an exciting time and a year filled with many firsts.   Today your child is receiving their first Kindergarten Progress Report, which is a standards-based progress report.  You will notice that your child received a score of 0-4 in the areas of Behavior and Social Growth, Language Arts, Mathematics, and Other Areas to indicate progress toward mastery of each of the standards listed.  Below is an explanation of each score:

Z – Not assessed at this time

4 – Exceeds the standard

3 – Meets the standard

2 – Consistent progress toward standard mastery

1 – Limited progress toward standard mastery

0 – No progress toward standard mastery

Since the standards are expectations of what children should know and be able to do by the end of the kindergarten year, most children will not meet the standard (score of 3) until the final progress report.  A score of 2 indicates that your child is meeting expected benchmarks for this time of the year and is currently on track for standard mastery by the end of the year.

In Art, Music, and PE, your child will receive grades from the teachers of these courses.  Below is an explanation of each grade:

E – Excellent

V – Very Good

S – Satisfactory

N – Needs Improvement

U – Unsatisfactory

Students in Grades 1-5

Today your child is receiving his/her first Progress Report for the 2013-2014 school year.  The report card has a changed format to include your child’s subject area grades and a conduct grade for each course.  You will also see comments are now numbered statements which the teacher has an option of using.  There are two reasons for the numbered comments.  The first reason is to make the comments factual statements about your child’s learning and the second reason is to align the elementary report card with the middle school and high school report card.

In Art, Music, and PE, your child will receive grades from the teachers of these courses.  Below is an explanation of each grade:

E- Excellent

V – Very Good

S – Satisfactory

N – Needs Improvement

U - Unsatisfactory

Please take time to review the Progress Report with your child and celebrate the hard work they have done this marking period.  If there is a subject or area of concern, discuss how you will work together at home to practice and grow stronger in that growth area.  Please schedule a conference with the teacher to further reflect on areas in need of improvement or other areas of concern.  With all of us working together, it will be a year full of success for your child.
